Motions (2) to amend the Bylaws have been made

These two motions will be voted upon during the next Intergroup meeting, May 6, 2017, at 10 AM – 12 NOON, at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, 464 NE 16 ST, Miami, FL 33132. As required by current Bylaw, notice must be sent to all member group at least 10 days prior to Intergroup meeting, at which it is to be voted on.

Motion #1, Excess Funds Motion

Move to change current wording in Bylaws, ARTICLE VII, Section 2, Prudent Reserve., from:

Funds in excess [of the prudent reserve] shall be donated to Region 8 and the World Service Office annually in the month of November. The funds shall be divided as follows: one-fourth (1/4) to Region 8 and three-fourths (3/4) to the World Service Office of Overeaters Anonymous.

To:

Annually, in the month of December, the Intergroup shall vote on and select an amount of money to be donated to Region and the World Service Office of Overeaters Anonymous. The amount to be donated must come from funds above the prudent reserve and what the Intergroup considers reasonable operating expenses. The amount to be donated shall be divided as follows: one-fourth (1/4) to Region 8 and three-fourths (3/4) to the World Service Office of Overeaters Anonymous.

Rationale: We voted to change the prudent reserve from 30-50% of budget to a flat one-thousand dollars ($1,000.00). This means that in the past after making donations to Region and WSO we would still have a few thousand dollars in the bank to continue operating. Now we will simply have the one-thousand dollars with restrictions not to spend that as its prudent reserve. This motion would make it possible for us to make donations and continue operating based upon our financial capacity at the time. Moving the annual donation from November to December assures that all monies owed and received from the annual convention will be included in any calculations.

Motion #2, Change Committee Composition

Move to change the committee structure in the Bylaws under Article 8, Section 2 – Committees and their Duties:

From:

I) The Special Events Committee, subject to the approval of the Intergroup and authorization of expenditures by the Executive Board, shall coordinate and assist with events sponsored by the Intergroup as well as marathons and other special functions sponsored by member groups approved by the Intergroup.
K) The Twelfth Step Within Committee shall develop activities to improve member retention and reach out to members in relapse or not attending meetings.

To:

K) The Twelfth Step Within Committee shall develop activities to improve member retention and reach out to member in relapse or not attending meetings. Special Events shall be a subcommittee of the Twelve Step Within Committee, as the scheduling of special events enhances and strengthens the fellowship contributing to member retention. The Committees activities are subject to the approval of the Intergroup and authorization of expenditures by the Executive Board. The Committee shall coordinate and assist with events sponsored by the Intergroup as well as marathons and other special functions sponsored by member groups approved by the Intergroup.

Rationale:
The close fellowship connection created during Special Events accomplishes one of the primary goals of the Twelve Step Within Committee; promoting member retention. Additionally, a special event focusing on Twelve Step Within issues has become an annual marathon event every December. Since these committees share similar goals it would be more efficient to place the Special Events Committee under the umbrella of the Twelve Step Within Committee.
